Cookie Policy

Last updated: July 2026

The short version

We use one thing that needs a cookie: Google Analytics, to count visits. It only runs if you allow it, it is off until you do, and saying no costs you nothing: the site behaves identically either way.

What is stored, and when

Only after you allow it, Google Analytics places two cookies:

Cookie Who sets it Lifetime What it is for
_ga Google Analytics 90 days Tells a returning visitor apart from a new one
_ga_<property> Google Analytics 90 days Keeps the current visit together as one session

Ninety days is our setting, not Google's; their default is two years.

Always, and never in a cookie, three settings live in your browser's own local storage and never leave your device:

  • Your theme choice, light or dark, so the site does not switch back on every visit.
  • Your confirmation that you are 18 or older, so you are not asked twice.
  • Your answer to the cookie question, so you are not asked twice about that either. A refusal is stored exactly like a consent: it has to be, or the bar would return on every page.

Clearing your browser data removes all of it.

What we do and do not ask Google for

Analytics is set up to count, not to profile. Advertising features, ad personalisation and Google Signals are switched off, IP addresses are shortened before storage, and we never send Google anything you type: not a search term you enter here, not a message you send through the contact form.

What we look at is which pages get read and roughly where visitors arrive from, so we know which strains are worth keeping up to date.

Google as processor, and where the data goes

Google Ireland Limited processes this data on our instructions under Google's data processing terms. Some of it is handled on servers outside the European Union, for which Google relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and on the standard contractual clauses. Google keeps the underlying event data for up to 14 months.

Changing your mind

Cookie choice at the bottom of any page reopens the question, and refusing withdraws consent straight away. Deleting cookies through your browser also works, and blocking them entirely is fine here: nothing on the site depends on one.

Third parties

When you use a "View deal" button you leave for the shop's own site, and that shop may set its own cookies under its own policy. We have no control over those.

Fonts and other files

Everything else the site loads comes from our own server: the stylesheet, the scripts and the three webfonts. Until July 2026 the fonts came from Google Fonts, which meant Google could see the request; they are self-hosted now, so that no longer happens.

The one remaining exception is a handful of strain photographs still served from a shop's own image server. Those load an image and set no cookie.

Changes

If what we store changes, this page changes with it, and consent is asked where the law requires it.
